Are transfer papers needed? When buying a motor-bike from a private sale do you need transfer papers?

Of course you do. Its against the law not too. You must register it under your name in order to buy insurance on it in the first place and to get a plate. Also if it ever gets stolen and is found by the ploice then its going back to the original owner. Btw I'm a car dealer and have registered and dealt with many types of vehicles and have gone to Secratary of State hundreds of times.

Sterling . How do I Troubleshoot the Engine on a 1989 Ford Taurus 3.0 V6?

Once a problem develops in a 1989 Ford Taurus engine, you will notice. How you notice depends on where the problem is located in the engine. Of course, symptoms can have a number of different causes. You can troubleshoot the Ford's engine manually, but there are places in the engine that are hard to get to without removing a lot of components just for the purpose of access. This is why the Taurus's Electronic Engine Control system can be helpful. You can create a list of leads just by making the Taurus perform a self-diagnostic test.
Difficulty:Moderate
Instructions Things You'll Need
Jumper wire

Step by Step :
1
Start the Taurus's engine and let it heat up to its usual operational temperature. The air-conditioning system can mess up this process, so make sure the A/C is switched off. After about 10 minutes, turn the Taurus off and pop the hood.
2
With the hood open, locate the Self Test Outlet and the Self Test Input. The STO features six ports and is many-sided. The STI is a smaller single port on a wire.
3
Insert one end of a jumper wire into STI. Place the other end into the bottom left port on the STO. Return to the driver's seat.
4
Turn the Taurus on, but leave the engine off. Count the number of times the check engine light flashes. There will be both long and short flashes to consider. Ford's EEC-IV codes come in two- to three-digit sequences. The first number of a code comes in long flashes, and the second will come in shorter pulse-like flashes. Code 31, for example, will consist of three long flashes and one shorter one. A pause will separate complete trouble codes. Write all the codes down.
5
Turn the Taurus off, remove the key, and remove the jumper wire from the STO and STI. You will have to look up the EEC-IV codes on the internet (see Resource section). Once you have located the coding definitions, write the appropriate definitions next to numbers you wrote down in Step 4.
6
Return to the Taurus, look into the engine compartment and troubleshoot the areas that correspond with the trouble codes. Cross out numbers and definitions once your investigation eliminates them from consideration.

Sterling . How to Troubleshoot Engine Problems for the 1996 Ford Taurus

A 1996 Ford Taurus features an engine that is compliant with the current, second-generation On-Board Diagnostics system. This system can greatly help troubleshooting the Ford's engine once the Taurus begins to develop problems. You can access both trouble and pending codes with an OBD-II scanner. Accessing the system, however, is not the silver bullet of engine troubleshooting. It's just an efficient way to start the process. Armed with a scanner, you can make a list of potential problems that will guide your investigation.
Difficulty:Moderate
Instructions Things You'll Need
OBD-II Scanner
Pen
Paper

Step by Step :
1
Open the driver's door on the Taurus and plug your OBD-II scanner's cable into the the vehicle's diagnostic port. You will find this data link connection below the dash and to the left of the steering column. It will be uncovered and next to the parking brake.
2
Turn the scanner on. Some of the next couple of steps will be slightly different depending on the brand and model of scanner you own. Your particular scanner may auto-activate and automatically retrieve codes once sensing a stream of data from the Taurus. Always consult and defer to the exact instructions detailed in your scanner's user manual.
3
Place your key into the Ford's ignition and turn to On. This will turn on the electrical system, as well as the diagnostic computer. Depending on the scanner you own, you may need to crank the engine.
4
Look at the codes retrieved. On a piece of paper, copy all the codes down and make a list. Place all the trouble codes at the top of the list. These are the reasons why a check engine light comes on. Below the trouble codes, add the pending codes. While these may not have appeared as often as the trouble codes, they are still recorded instances of a malfunction. They could be anomalies, or they could also be issues that will classed as "trouble codes" later.
5
Turn the Ford's engine off and remove the key from the ignition. Turn the scanner off and remove the cable from the diagnostic outlet.
6
Consult your OBD-II scanner's user manual for coding definitions. Most manuals have a list of codes general to all post-1996 vehicles. You may also need to look up Ford's supplemental OBD-II coding (see Resource section). Write the relevant definitions next the codes on your list.
7
Return to your Taurus and open the hood. Begin to investigate the engine based on your list. Draw a line through the code and definition once you have eliminated it from consideration.
Tips & Warnings
OBD-II scanners can be borrowed from some garages, but others will charge diagnostic fees. Consider buying a scanner if you plan to troubleshoot your Taurus yourself. It saves money in diagnostic fees over the long term.

If you encounter codes that describe repairs unfamiliar to you, you should seriously consider consulting a professional mechanic.

cooled engine. If you have a pre-1975 Volkswagen, you won't find a drop of water in it.) Of course, nothing is as simple as it seems. Automakers add a couple of gimmicks to keep the water from boiling too easily. These include a water pump to keep it moving; a fan and a radiator to cool it off; a pressure cap to retard boiling; a thermostat to help the engine quickly reach and maintain the proper temperature; and antifreeze/coolant to raise the boiling point and keep the water from rusting the engine and freezing in winter. Put them all together, and you have your vehicle's cooling system (see Figure 8-1). The cooling system is highly efficient. It usually requires almost no work to keep it operating — just a watchful eye for leaks and an occasional check or change of coolant. This chapter explores the system part by part. Chapter 14 shows you what to do if your car overheats and how to maintain and troubleshoot the cooling system and make easy repairs. Chapter 21 helps you get out of trouble if your car overheats on the road. 160 Part": What Makes It Go?. When the fuel/air mixture is ignited in the cylinders, the temperature inside the engine can reach thousands of degrees Fahrenheit. It takes only half that heat to melt iron, and your engine would be a useless lump of metal in about 20 minutes if your vehicle couldn't keep things cool. Naturally, the liquid (coolant and water) that circulates around the cylinders in the engine block gets very hot, and so it's continually circulated back to the radiator, where it cools off before heading back to the scene of the action. The radiator is designed to cool the liquid quickly by passing it over a large cooling surface. The liquid enters the radiator through the top radiator hose, which is usually connected to (you guessed it) the top of the radiator (refer

to Figure 8-1). As the liquid descends, it runs through channels in the radia tor, which are cooled by air rushing in through cooling fins between the channels. When the liquid has cooled, it leaves the radiator through the bottom radiator hose (surprise!). This hose usually has a spring inside it to prevent it from collapsing when the water pump draws coolant from the radi ator. (If it collapses anyway, Chapter 14 has instructions for replacing it.) Additional hoses There are also smaller-diameter hoses also leading from your engine to the heater core (see the end of this chapter). Some vehicles have a small bypass hose near the thermostat as well (see "The Thermostat," later in this chapter). These hoses are an important part of the cooling system, as they are designed to carry the liquid in it from one component to another. .Chapter 8: The Cooling System Up Close Coolant/Antifreeze

To keep the water in the cooling system from boiling or freezing, the water is mixed with coolant/antifreeze (which, in the interest of brevity, I just call "coolant"). Most coolants contain about 95 percent ethylene glycol, a chemical that stops water from freezing or boiling, even in extreme temperatures. (Ethylene glycol is toxic; there are nontoxic coolants that contain propylene glycol instead. See the sidebar "Keeping coolant out of the mouths of babes and small animals" in Chapter 14.) In addition to the ethylene glycol, coolant also contains rust, corrosion, and foaming inhibitors, so coolant does more than just keep the water in the system in a liquid state: It also helps to prevent the formation of rust on the metal surfaces of the engine and the radiator, lubricates the water pump, and keeps the liquid from foaming as it circulates through the system. Since the early 1960s, auto manufacturers have designed the cooling systems of most vehicles for a 50/50 mixture of ethylene glycol and water, which is still generally considered the proper proportion of coolant to water for the cooling system of most vehicles. (I usually refer to the coolant and water mixture as "liquid" in the rest of this chapter.) Today's engines require specially formulated coolants that are safe for aluminum components. Also, some manufacturers are using a new coolant called Dex-cool that can last about twice as long as other coolants. If your cooling system is operating properly, you shouldn't have to keep adding liquid to it. Chapter 3 shows you how to check the level and condition of the liquid in the cooling system, and Chapter 14 shows you how to add liquid or flush the system and replace the liquid in it. The coolant recovery system A coolant recovery system is just a clear plastic container with two little hoses coming out of the cap (see Figure 8-2). One hose leads to the radiator, and the other serves as an overflow pipe for the container. The container holds an extra supply of water and coolant, in case the system loses any. When your cooling system heats up and starts to overflow, the liquid pours back into the recovery container instead of pouring out of the radiator overflow pipe and onto the ground. When the system cools off, the pressure drops and the liquid is drawn out of the container and back into the radiator. This process not only saves you coolant, but it also protects animals and children from sampling puddles of the toxic stuff. 162 Part II: What Makes It Go? Figure 8-2: A coolant recovery system.
